Bath flood threat recedes

The threat of flood chaos in the centre of Bath receded last night after river levels dropped. Emergency services were on standby yesterday as flooding replaced snow as a new source of disruption in Bath. The car park at the city’s sports and leisure centre was closed and water was lapping around the edge of The Rec as snow melted and heavy rain fell.

Recycling, Rubbish and Waste

We are committed to recycling and reducing our rubbish and we have set ourselves a long term goal of zero waste.  We are currently recycling almost 43% of our waste and are on target to achieve even higher levels of recycling this year.

Our Big Energy Challenge

Staff in Bath & North East Somerset Council are participating in a ground breaking, in-house energy efficiency project.

The project aims to reduce the amount of energy that is used in our offices, thereby reducing our carbon emissions, a key factor in fighting climate change. Energy Champions, who have come forward from all over the council, are working with staff to raise awareness of energy efficiency in the workplace.
Staff are encouraged to do simple things, such as turn off lights when they are not being used, print documents double sided, and to turn off monitors and shut down computers when leaving their desks to go to meetings or leaving the office. The cumulative efforts of these small actions add up to definite savings in electricity use. Consumption monitors have been installed to the electricity supplies in our offices so that it is possible to see where and when energy is being used.

Bath is one of the most beautiful cities in the world

Bath’s outward image of beauty and elegance, world-class heritage and apparent prosperity conceals a range of economic and social problems which, if left unchecked, will lead to the long-term decline of the city

Tackling congestion in Bath leaflet

The Bath Transportation Package is a £54 million scheme to improve public transport and pedestrian access for all residents and visitors in the City of Bath and the surrounding area.

The package underpins both the ‘Vision for Bath’, the World Heritage status and tourism. The bid was submitted to the Department for Transport in July 2006 who have now approved the scheme for Programme Entry, indicating their intention to provide the necessary funding once all the statutory approvals and tenders for scheme construction are in place.
