Parts of south-west England, Northern Ireland and Wales that suffered flooding because of torrential rain on Monday have been returning to normal. The wettest place was Cardinham, in Cornwall, which received about half a month’s rain – 2.7in (68.4mm). Flood alerts remain in place on the North Sea coast, and around the Upper River Tamar in south-west England.

Thousands of residents are rushing to leave the Thai capital Bangkok, which is braced for potentially severe flooding over the weekend. The city’s bus and train stations and many roads are jammed by crowds of people attempting to flee. Brazil floods: Army deployed in Rio de Janeiro state
Published January 16, 2011 Brazil , Floods Leave a CommentDevastating flood waters across the Australian state of Queensland may not recede for weeks, the state’s Premier Anna Bligh has warned. More than 20 towns in Queensland have been cut off or flooded, with more than 200,000 people affected. Military aircraft are flying supplies into Rockhampton, which has been isolated by the still-rising waters.
North-eastern Australia’s worst flooding in decades is continuing to cause chaos across the region. There have so far been five flood related deaths in the last month. Rural towns west of Brisbane have been cut off, and crops have been damaged. The overall cost from flood damage is expected to exceed one billion US dollars
